Excellent Evans is National Champion

Reanne Evans defeated Rebecca Granger in the final to win the resurrected English Ladies National Snooker Championship at the Stourbridge Institute last weekend.

Following an absence of five years from the tournament calendar, a keen entry assembled at the West Midlands venue aiming to claim the title that was last won by Tina Owen-Sevilton in 2011.

Reigning world women’s champion Evans qualified from her group before denying Shannon Metcalf 3-0 in the semi-finals, and then recording a 4-1 victory over Kenna.

Evans also registered the day’s highest break with an effort of 74.

Granger continues to show improvement on the women’s scene. She also took a frame off Evans in the groups phase and defeated former world women’s number one Maria Catalano 3-0 in the last four. Practicing in the lead up to the event, Granger made a 120 break.

LiteTask – supporters of world women’s snooker – awarded cash prizes to both finalists to help them compete at the WLBS World Championship in Singapore next year. Evans received £800 and Granger £400 towards their travel costs.

In the plate championship, Jodie Allen defeated ‘Birthday Girl’ Heidi De Gruchy 2-0 in the final.
