Teenager Louis Chand won the 2016 New Zealand National Snooker Championship title at the Gore Town and Country Club last weekend.
Claiming it for the first time, the 17-year-old set a new record as the youngest winner of the championship, eclipsing former professional Dene O’Kane’s previous benchmark by 17 days.
Chand began the 40-player tournament by finishing top of his group and qualifying for the knockout phase. He came through a further four matches to face the previously undefeated Matthew Scarborough in the final. An encounter that lasted seven hours, Chand emerged victorious, 8-5.
Earlier this year, Chand was successful at the Oceania Under-21 Championship in Australia.
