Thorri Jensson defeated Sigurður Kristjánsson 9-6 in the final to win the 2025 Icelandic National Snooker Championship title.

Jensson claims Iceland’s blue riband domestic snooker accolade for the fourth time in his career; all these triumphs have arrived since 2020. Last year he narrowly missed out on a three-peat when he was ousted 9-8 by Alan Trigg in the final having been 8-5 up, so reclaiming the crown will be a sweet feeling.

Organised by the Billiards Association of Iceland and held at the Billiardbarinn venue in the capital city of Reykjavic, 37-year-old Jensson began his latest title tilt with a 5-0 win over Bernhard Bernhardsson.

The Hafnarfjörður cueist eliminated Ástvaldur Heiðarsson 5-2 in the quarter-finals and then former professional player and multiple-time winner of this tournament Bryngmar Valdimarsson 7-2 in the last four.

Advancing from the other side of the draw was Kristjánsson, who reached the final for the third time following runner-up finishes in 2015 and 2022. Kristjánsson dropped only three frames in as many matches en route to the title match, dispatching two-time winner Gunnar Hreidarsson 7-1 in the semi-finals.

In a repeat of the 2022 showpiece, Jensson established an early advantage in the best of 17 frames encounter and built on it for a commanding 7-2 lead. However, Kristjánsson rallied, stringing together four consecutive frames to trail by just one at 7-6 down.

Jensson, though, was not to be denied as he resisted his opponent’s comeback, taking the next two frames to reclaim his nation’s top snooker prize.

The player with the most Icelandic national titles is ex-professional Kristján Helgason – a Crucible Theatre qualifier in 2000 – who has won 14.
